Walk in the Sun

This was in Blaize's journal.

Fitting that this is for two of my dearest friends and of course Aisha taught me to write in this fast connected way cursive.  I like it much easier.

For Samual & Aisha.

I will sit in the shade

they cast and

be content

Walk in the Sun

Oh I knew a girl

Who walked alone

Walked with no one to hold her

For she thought her heart

Too precious to risk

She knew that life was too fragile

But she met a man

With hope in his hands

Eyes as blue as her sorrow

But no handsome man

Could win her away

Until he did speak of tomorrow

One day youll be free

Oh one day youll be free

One day you will walk in the sun

One day you will stand

With no sword in your hand

And no fear in your heart

Left to cut you.

Oh I knew a girl

As graceful as night

Owned by word and by custom

And she found her path

An honor to bear

Until her child was gifted elsewhere.

And she made an oath

By sand and by fire

By the blood in her veins

And her honor

And she called the winds

To witness this vow

And carry her words

To her daughter

One day youll be free

Oh one day youll be free

One day you will walk in the sun

One day you will stand

With no chains on your hands

In a land where no one

Can own you.

Oh I met a man

All broken inside

He thought he had lost

All hed lived for

He thought it time

That he lay down and die

He thought it time to surrender

But he met a girl

With hope in her eyes

With dreams that had never

Been broken

And she saw the chains

That bound his heart

She knew that hope could be spoken

One day youll be free

Oh one day youll be free

One day you will stand in the sun

One day you will stand

With no sword in your hand

And no fear in your heart

Left to cut you.

Oh I knew a girl

As shy as a bird

As lovely as moonlight

On water

And she loved a man

She feared to love

Afraid that her touch

Would burn him

He said Im not a cold man

And Im not a liar

Im not a man

Who could hurt you

Im just the man who would hold

Your hand

Im just the man who would

Serve you.

One day youll be free

Oh one day youll be free

One day you will stand in the sun

One day you will stand

With no glove on your hand

And no fear in your heart

Left to cut you
